On this day in history...

Maybe a little late posting this, at the end of the day, but it wouldn't feel right letting the day go by entirely without mentioning a Certain Someone's Birthday....

That someone, of course, being the fabulous, multi-talented, most cuddly Mr.Quimby....who, after this many years, still makes me smile, and continues to generously exercise his special ability to reach things off of high shelves.

Though he often prefers reaching for things on low shelves....

And who still manages to surprise me, almost a decade on...I had no idea he'd look so good with shiny pink ribbons in his hair!

Happy Birthday, hot stuff!

Can't get my mojo workin'

Blah.

I wore the stole to work on Thursday...loved it, it felt great (much, much warmer than I was expecting!) I've had my head full of plans since I blocked the beastie...finish the Viking Sweater of Doom; knit something out of that silvery Sweet Georgia lace-weight (yarn so sexy I prolly shouldn't mention it on a family blog, it makes me feel that good to think of wearing it! *ahem*); knit a pair of socks for the Sock Summit sock hop (the class list was posted today...squee!)...hell, just finish the washcloth I stalled out on halfway through.

And I just can't do any of it. I put in a Buffy DVD and actually watched it, without wanting to knit! Crikey! I hope this isn't permanent!

So here I am, home from grocery shopping, with a day to myself while Mr.Q's out celebrating his birthday (yes, again) with a pub crawl of epic proportions...and the dishes are done, laundry's reasonably under control, I had such a late lunch that supper's a non-issue, there's no reason not to be in my PJs...prime knitting time, non?

Non. No, nein, nyet, nada.

I got nuthin'.

Guess I need a bit of a time-out after that last marathon. And you know what? I think I'm OK with that (for a limited time!) Coz in the meantime, what I do have is 3 lazy, cuddly felines, a little more Buffy, and some vanilla vodka to mix with that Godiva's liqueur. Not to mention some pajamas calling my name.

Sounds like a perfect date-night-with-self to me!

End Radio Silence

Whew! I'm sitting down with a much-deserved bottle of Strongbow, after a loooong work-a-day, and an especially...ummm...interesting...ride home on the bus...But I'm not here to tell you about either of those.

I have been a busy, busy Quimby of late, trying to get the last of my House Cup homework finished before next week's deadline. And, I am happy to report, I just "handed in" my last project. Which, incidentally, is largely the reason for my recent disappearance from the innernets. I have been knitting, and knitting, and knitting. Literally, hours every night. I've knit through the last 3 seasons of Stargate Atlantis (how cheesy was that ending?!), and a season and change of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

All for this:

Print o' the Waves stole, in mmmmmMalabrigo sock (Persia). Want to see more?

It's deliciously drapey, and all manner of shiny loveliness. I am totally planning tomorrow's outfit to go with it.

Now that I've re-emerged from my cave, and had a look around at the outside world...I've come to realize that I can't wait for my birthday. Yes, it's months away. But it's just about this time that this comes out. Squee!

Time-sucking zombies

I did not need to come across this.

FSM only knows what they're thinking of the loud snorts upstairs.

Carry on.

Please return to your seats and fasten your seatbelts securely

Today, I'm going to see if I can warp the fabric of space-time - indeed, bend the very perception of reality. It could be a bumpy ride.

I'm wearing a skirt to work.

Dudes.

This is some seriously crazy shit.

FOs

Dad, if you're reading this before dinner tonight - don't take this the wrong way, but go away. Avert your eyes. All shall be revealed in the fullness of time, but please don't ruin the surprise. You can come back and visit tomorrow.

Shoo.

Mmkaybye.

Pssst....is he gone yet?

OK! Now I can show you the Herbology homework I finished last night. The assignment: knit something related to the Alihotsy plant, known for creating hysteria. Which pretty much describes the giggles I had when I came across this pattern:

I mean really, what's funnier than a knitted condom? (Besides the look on people's faces when they ask me what I'm knitting, and I tell them, totally deadpan. And then they realize I'm serious. Dudes, if I'd known knitting had this kind of shock value, I would (probably) not have shaved my head in high school. At least, not the second time.)

And yes, I do know that I can't really use it. (Though it is superwash. Just for the irony. It amuses me. Maybe a little too much, but it's been a long couple of weeks....)

Rumours of my abduction by aliens have been greatly exaggerated...

I was barely recovered from consumption (or whatever that was - there was no actual coughing involved, thank FSM, but there were several days when I thought the pressure from my sinuses was going to pop my eyeballs out of my head. Could have been ugly.) when we got a whole swack of new students. Which, while usually enjoyable, is also highly energy-sucking. Especially when barely recovered from a protracted illness (are you sensing the melodrama here, or do I need to kick it up a notch?) and while still rassling a cat several times a day to administer vile potions and squeeze a satellite dish on and off its head....

So that's why I haven't posted in far, far too long. Also, I was getting very little help on the home front, as illustrated below:

A closer-upper shot to more clearly illustrate just how overwhelmed the Mr. was with his feline responsibilities:

Yeah. Life's hard for all of them, hey? Meanwhile, I've been changing the litterbox two or three times a day, so Bagheera's leg wouldn't get infected. Not to mention the issues with his Space Cat cone - climbing all over our heads, trying to cuddle on our pillows, hacking up furballs in the middle of the night. (While wearing the cone. Meaning, furball ick on the cone. Which, when you consider the whole head-cuddling thing, is just too, too ick to wait till morning to be cleaned up. So there was some interrupted sleep going on, too.)

But it hasn't been all woe and gloom. There was also knitting madness (and cheeseburgers) last weekend. See?

(The yarn was Mini Maiden. I couldn't help myself.)

There was an interesting interlude with bewbs and.....well....see for yourself:

There was an entertaining conversation about the Obamas' surprisingly open sexual habits...(for more information, go here) which led, almost inevitably, to indecencies being committed upon unsuspecting skeins:

(For the record, that is not my hand!)

(Because, after all, somebody has to hold the camera!)

So you see, I've been var' var' busy. To cap the week off, I had to take Bagheera to get his stitches out today. Looks like all is well there. (Whew!)

Also, I've been knitting condoms. More on that later. Hope all's been with you, Dear Reader(s)! Don't forget to change your clocks back tomorrow night, as it is the night of evil sleep-sucking doom the time change this weekend!

TTFN!
